Violinist, Ionel Manciu, accompanied by pianist Ayaka Shigeno, saved the day when oboist Katherine Bryer and pianist Irene Radic were diagnosed with Covid and were unable to perform for Bishop Auckland Music Society’s concert in the Methodist Church on Friday, 20th August. Ionel and Ayaka dashed to the North East from London and just had time for a brief rehearsal before the concert began at 7.30pm.
The couple had rarely performed together but were in perfect harmony presenting works by Beethoven, Debussy and Schumann.
It was a delightful evening and the musicians were charming and humorous in their presentation.
The fourth concert in Bishop Auckland Music Society’s 2021 Concert Series will take place on Friday, 3rd September at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church (opposite Bishop Auckland hospital) when Trio Anima (harp, flute and viola) will perform works by Piazzola, Debussy and Bax amongst others.
Trio Anima was formed in 2006 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where they were awarded a Chamber Music Fellowship in 2011.
For over a decade they have been delighting audiences with their distinctive combination of flute, viola and harp.
Tickets: £14, from Brotherton’s Music, (opposite Morrisons), or from Brian Varley (01388 606075), tickets also available on the door: £16.
