Great Aycliffe Town Council organise the annual Senior Citizens’ Excursions each year in June and July. There is no cost for the excursion to individuals for the ‘trip’.

Residents of the Parish of Great Aycliffe, eg Town, Aycliffe Village, School Aycliffe and Woodham who are 60 years or over on the 1st April are eligible to go on one of the 31 excursions.

Application forms are available from the beginning of May each year and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Where the journey is over one hour travelling time, a comfort stop is provided to allow passengers to freshen up. The Council provides refreshments for one of the comfort stops either en route to the destination or on the homeward journey. Passengers are responsible for buying their own refreshments at the other comfort stop.

A three course luncheon with tea or coffee is always provided at a good quality hotel or restaurant.

Passengers are asked to complete a satisfaction survey at the end of their day. The results during the past years have consistently shown the ‘overall’ opinion as being excellent or good.
