I hope everyone reading this is ok, it’s business as usual here, but working with less in rescue, releasing hoggies to safe places is my top priority. I am also admitting poorly ones. I have noticed that the brown wheelie bins for garden rubbish have started to appear around the town. Can I ask everyone who loves their pretty gardens to please check the undergrowth before you strim, our hedgehogs are pretty too, they don’t deserve to be dismembered or maimed by strimmers, no animal does, these lethal garden tools should be banned. Also, the use of weed killers need to be organic too if it’s necessary to use them.
I have managed to successfully overwinter 27 hedgehogs, which is far more than I have ever done, some have gone to safe places where they can live in a danger free environment, Keira, Summer, Willow, Lucky, Katy, Dusty, to name but a few, they are living their best lives in lovely gardens.
If you have a hog with me now please get in touch, some may be able to come home, Theo is one of them, Chandler and Joe are also being released very soon, weather permitting of course, it’s been too cold to release any before now.
I was contacted by Sore Paws on Monday night, they needed a Rehabber to care for a 500g hoggie. I went to collect this poor soul who was too small to be out alone in these weather conditions. He has settled well but is a lot smaller than he should be, he seems happy to be here on a lovely comfy bed with nice food, but he is very underweight and also has a parasite burden. He keeps Autumn company, which she seems to like too, I have taken the liberty of naming him Oscar. I will take a photo of him for next weeks blog. It would be nice if the finder gets in touch with me, contact details are below.
There are a lot of people who have made it possible for me to keep these beauties well fed and comfortable, firstly Don of Aycliffe Village, Julia, Alicia, Jackie and John, June and Valerie, Lorraine, Nev and Jo from Community Spirit and our Supervets Grange Vets, Angela, Ed, Ricardo and Elaine, always there for these prickly little ones.
