It’s been a busy week in our little rescue with very poorly hedgehogs coming in and also some releases, but firstly can I apologise to Margaret and The Methodist Church Ladies Group, Mitzi and I visited them, not the community centre. Mitzi has since been released with Charley, wish them well on their new found freedom.
Can I also thank Sheila who took the time to make some beautiful blankets. June, Valerie, Bev, Lori and the residents of Avon Court for their support too. Our raffle has been drawn and everyone who has won has been notified.
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society celebrates 40 years trying to save these beautiful creatures. Our hedgehogs have significant difficulties in the wild which is why we, as rehabbers, are here to provide them with the urgent medical care they so richly deserve, it takes a lot of time and work to give them the support they need not to mention knowledge, which has to be gained over time, there is very little training out there for us. Myself, Sandra, Bernie’s Hedgehog Rescue and A Prickly Problem share ideas and knowledge and in some cases medical supplies so whilst we have to work alone we work as a collective with the same ultimate goal, to save our hedgehogs.
Thank you to everyone who has been very quick to get our prickly pals to me because time is of the essence, it takes 48 hours for meds to work effectively and cure them of their individual problems.
Here, in the picture, is my new admission, she is called Mia, thank you Joyce of the WI she has quite an upset tummy.
Tip of the week: If you see a hedgehog out during the day please get the poor soul some help, pick him or her up, pop in a high sided box with towels and something to keep his body warm either a hot water bottle or plastic bottle with hot water in and then ring BHPS on 01584 890801.
