On Sunday 27th November, Aycliffe Junior Athletics hosted the annual County Durham Athletics Network (CDAN) under 13s and 15s Indoor Sports hall competition at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. It was the first event that Aycliffe Coach, Claire Louise Clay, had organised since taking over recently as County Durham Athletics Event Co-Ordinator, and quickly set into motion bringing this prestigious event to Newton Aycliffe.
Represented Clubs from the County Durham area were, Aycliffe, Crook, Derwentside, Sedgefield, Durham City, Chester le-Street and Pheonix Fliers. With all clubs working together to provide event equipment and volunteers to marshal and judge events. This was a large logistic operation, but with all helping (including Grandparents) the competition went as planned.
Events consisted of Running, Jumping and Throwing activities across girls and boys’ age ranges. With the benefit of using both sides of the sports hall and spectator stand, all events could be carried out safely and quickly.
Aycliffe Athletics would like to thank Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre for providing them with an excellent facility and support throughout the process. Also to the other County Durham Clubs, Coaches and Volunteers who give up their personal time to make these events happen.
Well done to all the County Durham children who took part. Congratulations to our Juniors, Abbie Robinson, Hannah Brischuk, Henry Mosher, Max Todd, Luke Walker and Elizabeth Clay, who have been selected to represent County Durham at North East Regional Finals.
In Cross County news, Trinity Donoghue represented Aycliffe in the NEHL XC league at Aykley Heads on Saturday 26th, finishing 12th out of 47. Great work, keep it up.
Saturday 10th December saw Will Allison compete at Temple Park in the NECCA XC Championship, finishing in a fantastic 19th place in the under 11 boys. Great, considering he was one of the youngest competitors.
