UTC South Durham Sixth Form students are celebrating after their impressive results have secured places at top universities and onto competitive apprenticeship programmes.
Charlie McGee, Dan Jones and Kirsty Robson are just some of the students who have taken full advance of UTCs innovative approach to education and made positive steps to reaching their dream careers.
Achieving A*A*A in Maths, Chemistry and Biology Charlie McGee has accepted a place at Durham University to study Chemistry. After impressing partner company Filtronic during his time at UTC, Dan Jones has accepted a degree level apprenticeship in Engineering and will be starting Teesside University in September. Similarly, Kirsty Robson has accepted a degree level apprenticeship with engineering firm Arup to kick-start her journey into civil engineering.
Catherine Purvis-Mawson, Deputy Principal at UTC South Durham, said “Year on year our 6th Form students go from strength to strength achieving their destinations and careers of choice. The majority of students are all entering into STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) careers or degrees and we couldn’t be prouder of their success.”
Students on UTC’s T Level programme also received the results of their Year 12 exams. T Levels are a new government qualification that is the equivalent to three A Level qualifications where there are embedded interactions with employers. The UTC launched their T Level in engineering last year and it is already having great success.
With a large cohort due to enrol onto the T Level programme in September, Mike Donnelly, Director of Technical Specialism, said “the T Level has been a great addition to our sixth form curriculum as students can now interact with our industry partners as part of their course. We’ve found students have really embraced this opportunity which can only pay dividends when they come to deciding their next steps in a years’ time.”
UTC South Durham has a handful of places left for students to join Sixth Form in September. Those interested should complete an application online at www.utcsouthdurham.org or contact admissions@utcsouthdurham.org for more information.
