Kyran Richmond is 9 years old and lives in Chilton with his parents and 2 brothers. He has been diagnosed with Juvenile Batten Disease, a rare genetic metabolic neurodegenerative disease.  It causes a healthy child to develop epilepsy, lose the ability to walk, talk, eat and see before dying a premature death in late teens/early twenties as there is no cure for the disease.
Kyran is only the third person in the north east to be diagnosed with this disease. The Battens Disease Family Association receives no NHS funding.
Laurie Simpson the Eden Arms Hotel Assistant Manager completed a 90 mile circular walk in the Lake District to raise money for Kyran and the money was presented to Kyran last Saturday by Laurie with members of staff in attendance.
