Mrs Colleen Hostein, now 91 years old, recently took a trip in a glider from Thirsk Gliding Club at Sutton Bank. This was her birthday present from her daughter, Lesley Davis. She had previously abseiled for charity on her 80th birthday. So, I decided she would have another little challenge for her 90th which was last year, however Covid put paid to that opportunity, but it was carried forward to her birthday this year.
Colleen has lived in Newton Aycliffe since 1972 and is well known to a lot of people as she managed Goldfinch Wines (later Hazelbank Wines), next to the former Oak Tree pub in Neville Parade from 1972, only retiring at the age of 79 in 2009.
Colleen lost her husband to a stroke in 1996.
She has an extremely large family, having had five children and now has nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a great great grandson on the way. Colleen’s greatest pleasure has always been her family and she has always put them first.
We are all so proud of her.
