Leading international shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, is the first company in the UK to have two of the largest Fan Fold “on demand” packaging machines.
Due to a continuing high growth rate and the necessity for ‘on demand’ product packaging, Roman have invested in a second high speed packaging machine. Roman’s first investment in ‘on demand’ packaging was 8 years ago and has proven an outstanding success.
The investment in the packaging machines has given Roman a much improved operational flexibility allowing ‘just in time’ packaging and the ability to custom design boxes with just the right amount of cardboard and very little waste.
The capability of the packaging machine allows Roman to create a box to perfectly fit with any of their products. The card used can be selected from 6 varieties so that the durability and protection of the product is just right to ensure protection during the delivery process.
The packaging machines can also create infills for the boxes to ensure further protection and minimise the movement of the product when handled.
Any shape, size and quantity of packaging can be produced as and when required.
The daily production plan is entered into the packaging machine, which digests the plan and produces the boxes in the correct sequence for each production line. The packaging machines can also print the Roman product code on the inside of the box so the product can be easily identified by the assembly personnel.
The capability of the two ‘on demand’ machines means that Roman have the potential to produce 1500 boxes per day for their products.
The packaging is not only used for Roman’s Shower Enclosures, Bath Screens and Wetroom Panels but also for their Solid Surface Fabrication manufacture, which also require many different bespoke boxes.
Roman currently uses 1.2 million square metres of cardboard every year.
Roman, have designed all their packaging to include important logos such as the company’s logo, The Queens Award emblem, Made in Britain marque, the CE Mark and Health and Safety logos.
John Wright, Operations Director at Roman, commented: “Because of the success of the existing ‘on demand’ packaging machine we had little hesitation deciding to purchase a second machine to cater for the rapidly increasing volume of products that we manufacture and deliver Worldwide every day.”
