Charlotte Tomlinson, Art teacher at Woodham Academy, is taking part in a major exhibition in Newcastle this week.  Charlotte’s work, Paper Cut, is part of the Visual Arts 12 show at Baltic 39.

Charlotte sees herself as an “Artist Teacher” as the two roles equally inspire and influence each other. Paper Cut has its origins in drawings thrown away by Charlotte’s students. Charlotte has taken the discarded work and has transformed it into a piece of extraordinary beauty using a Stanley knife to create intricate 3D patterns.

She says, “One of the best things about being an artist is that moment of magic when suddenly you have created something beautiful from nothing”.

Woodham Academy Headteacher, Christine Forsyth, says “Charlotte’s work is gorgeous.  Woodham is extremely fortunate to have an Art department staffed by teachers who are all successful artists in their own right”.

The exhibition finishes on 15th September at The Baltic 39, High Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne.
