Young Robert Horner won the competition run by the Fire Service at the Great Aycliffe Show and his parents Des and Donna we would like to thank Newton Aycliffe Fire Service and especially Red Watch for the hospitality extended to the family when they went to collect the prize.

“They simply expected to collect a George Forman Grill, but were offered the opportunity to tour of the station, the appliances and equipment used in incidents and saw how technology plays an integral part of the service.

Robert got to use the hose and be part of a mock incident on the command bus.

“Every single officer on duty that morning went out of their way to make us feel welcome and patiently answered all questions we asked. We came away with our son gaining knowledge and understanding of the role of the fire service, some lovely photos, memories and a potential new recruit in a few years’ time. A HUGE thank you to all who made this possible, and we look forward to seeing them again next year.”
