After a fantastic trio of new bands to start its 2019 season, Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club is looking forward to welcoming some old friends and firm favourites back to entertain its ever-growing audience.

On Saturday 6 April, the Savannah Jazz Band is back at the club, putting together a foot-tapping, heart-warming performance packed with excitement, humour and raw good music.

Savannah’s driving and exciting New Orleans style attracts large audiences whenever they play, and they’re constantly adding new numbers to their extremely wide repertoire. As well as New Orleans jazz standards and some driving rhythm and blues numbers there’ll probably be a dash of gospel and Johnny Cash-inspired country, if the band is in the mood for fun.

Just one week later on Saturday 13 April the Club extends a great welcome to Shades of Jazz, a band that includes a firm Darlington favourite in its front line – international reedsman John Hallam.

John’s career stretches across Europe and America and he’s held the front line in bands featuring jazz greats including George Melly, Stephane Grapelli, Digby Fairweather and Humphrey Littleton. With Shades of Jazz he’ll be playing dixieland, trad-jazz and swing, guaranteed to please all tastes.

Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington, just a short walk from the bus stops on Tubwell Row and Darlington railway station. Doors open at noon, and entry is just £10 on the door; children 15 and under go free when accompanied by an adult. For more information go to www.darlingtonjazz.co.uk
