Councillors will be updated on the progress of key initiatives carried out by partners across County Durham when they meet next week.

It follows the launch of the County Durham Vision 2035 in September last year which shared key ambitions for the area’s future.

The council and partners pledged to support plans to create more and better jobs within the county, help people to live long and independent lives, and to connect communities over the next 15 years.

Work has begun to review the structure of the partnership to ensure it fits with the ambitions of the new vision.

Cabinet will hear of several successes, including the tenth anniversary of Lumiere which has brought more than one million visitors to Durham since its launch.

Updates will be given on the growth of the visitor economy in County Durham, which has helped almost 12,000 people into employment across the area.

Cabinet will hear about the work of the Active Durham Partnership which has seen over 100 schools sign up to doing 10-30 minutes exercise every day, while other Area Action Partnerships (AAP) are delivering their own healthy lifestyle programmes, aimed at a range of people within the county.

Those 14 AAPs are also benefitting from their share of £140,000 to provide holiday schemes for young people and their families to socialise, be active and learn new skills while enjoying healthy meals.

Other AAP projects have supported residents to tackle the impact of welfare reform, access advice and entitlements and become debt free or significantly reduce their debts.

More updates will include projects set up to help older people at risk of isolation, efforts to improve the mental health of workers across the county, and recognising the success of children and young people through the County Durham Children and Young People’s Awards. Cabinet will be asked to note the contents of this update when it meets on Wednesday, 18 March.
