Poundworld has confirmed it will open its first store at Newton Aycliffe Shopping Centre next week. Opening on Thursday 12th November at 10am, the ribbon will be cut at the new store by Councillor Mary Dalton, Mayor of Great Aycliffe.
Situated at the former Poundstretcher unit close to Aldi, the arrival of Poundworld has created 30 new jobs.
Poundworld is part of a planned redevelopment for Aycliffe Town Centre transforming the town as a retail destination, providing a hub for Newton Aycliffe’s rapidly growing residential and business community.
The family-run company that started on a Wakefield market stall pledges to help shoppers in Newtown Aycliffe save big on their favourite household names including Cadbury’s, Johnson’s and Colgate. With over 5000 products for the price of £1, savvy Poundworld shoppers can take advantage of consistently great deals on thousands of leading brands to drive down the cost of their weekly shop.
The huge 5000 square foot store will stock everything from cleaning products, health and beauty items, stationery and DIY to toys and pet care products.
Area Manager, Tracey Readman commented: “We’ve put a lot of hard work in to making the store look great and we can’t wait to open our doors to local shoppers. We’ll be selling all your major brands with a number of huge savings on supermarket prices. We’ll also have our new Christmas range in store that is our biggest range yet.”
Mayor Mary Dalton said: “I am always delighted to see the opening of new stores in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre and would like to warmly welcome Poundworld to our town.
“I send sincere congratulations and best wishes from myself and members of Great Aycliffe Town Council to Poundworld for their future success in Newton Aycliffe.”
The fast-growing value retailer, that was recently the subject of popular BBC1 documentary ‘Pound Shop Wars’, has over 300 stores nationwide and plans to open a further fifty stores in the next year. Poundworld currently has stores in Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Stockton and Durham.
