It was back to busy ways for our runners which also saw some competing in a track event.
The weeks racing started on Wednesday, the first event being the Cock Crow 5k in Jarrow. Alan Wilks was our only runner at this event and he was First 0/70 in a time of 22.25.
Wednesday also saw runners take part in the 5th race in the Darlington Trail Series. This one taking place at Darlington South Park. First home was Richard Holland in 22.18 followed by Mark Bainbridge in 23.10, Dave Blewitt in 23.26, John Burnside 24.40, Sue Milburn 26.44, Heather Morgan 28.26, Heather Fenwick 30.38 and Denise Evans 31.01, Richard Tonge 32.26, Melanie Rowland 32.55, Susan Clark 35.09 and Eve Doe 40.15.
Finally on Wednesday three of our male members took part in the 1500m race in the NEGP at Jarrow. This was the fifth meeting of the series and each runner took part in a separate graded heat. John Surtees placed second in his heat in 4.27, Dez Fielden also placed second in 4.46 and Richard Campbell was first place in his heat in 5.14.
Thursday saw the start of the Durham Running Festival with the 5k and 10k races both taking place on the hottest night of the year so far. Unfortunately there had been a burst water main on part of the course which meant it had to be changed and caused some congestion. In the 5k the first runner home for the club was Alan Wilks in 25.40 followed by Alan Kellett in 29.26, Anne Kellett in 31.30 (2nd in her age category), Nicola Ingman in 32.10 and Kathleen Tonge in 32.00.
In the 10k race Mark Bainbridge was first home in 46.51 followed by Trish Kay in 54.29, Sandra Collins 58.30, Richard Tonge 1.07.33 and Marie Rudd 1.25.40.
On Friday the Durham Festival continued with the Run Like a Legend Mile Race. These were run in waves over the course of the day. Paul Dalton completed his mile in 5.14, Richard Holland in 5.47, Andy Talbot in 5.49 and Gemma Holland in 8.18.
The final race of the weekend took place on Sunday and was a 14k trail race around the area of Castle Bolton in Wensleydale. It was not only an off road course but was also considerably undulating, fortunately the weather had cooled slightly.
First home for ARC was Dez Fielden in 1.07.19 followed by Dave Blewitt in 1.15.36, Richard Holland in 1.16.35, Andrew Lumley in 1.26.43, Trish Kay in 1.30.10, Ian Baronowski 1.43.28, Lindsey Brown 1.47.40, Susan Clark 1.48.25 and Eve Doe 2.06.45.
For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30p.m., Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7.00 p.m., and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track.
