We at Prickly Haven want to thank Paul at Newton News for publishing our articles, he has made it possible for really kind people to come forward to help this rescue centre and its residents with donations to keep us afloat.

Also, our very own Marian who has supplied us with newspapers, I am so pleased because even in captivity, hedgehogs make beautiful newspaper nests! I am also going to thank Lesley, who found Willow, in advance, for some items for me to use on our car boot stall and also Sandra for getting in touch offering to help.

On a more serious note, these creatures are now on the risk of extinction list, this can only be described as a good thing because it will enable us to take more action on a local and international level to help these beautiful and very important mammals. Slug pellets, netting, ponds without escape routes, all man made and all avoidable, can kill our beloved hedgehogs!

I hope readers read last weeks issue of the Newton News with all the dangers they face; being involved in rescue we see a lot of what they are up against and their lives are very difficult. The little boy pictured above came to me with one of his eyes missing and blind in his other, he is called Sid, once we helped him get better he went to spend the rest of his days in a safe house, he has adapted to his new surroundings and his new family love him dearly.

If you see a sick, injured or a small hedgehog, please seek advice from BHPS on 01584 890801.

Weekly Tip: Hedgehog’s don’t run away when frightened, they curl up tightly!
