Well what can I say other than thank everyone who took the time and trouble to visit me and made purchases and donations when I visited Tesco on Saturday the 8th April, without this help I would have to close which is not an option because our Prickly Friends need all the help they can get because they are adorable.
A special thanks to Shirley, our Tesco Champion, for allowing me to be there in the first place, a donation from Tesco was also a lovely surprise, Joyce who took the time and trouble to help me at the last minute. Joyce also crafted some beautiful Hedgehog trinkets which were all sold. Another thank you goes to Audrey and Elaine for their donations but without doubt non of this would be possible without June, Valerie and Hazel, Hazel hand carved the rescue some beautiful little hedgehogs, truly amazing. I have to explain that I am quite unable to do crafting because my rescue takes up a lot of time and even though I have had surgery these little ones are always well cared for. I have a lot of support from my nearest and dearest.
I think it’s only fair to let everyone know where all this money goes, each Hedgehog has a comfy vet bed and, if necessary, a heat pad either in it or under it depending on the individual circumstances, four or five different types of antibiotics and wormer, pain killers etc, the list is very long and, importantly, the food. I purchase 10kg bag of Royal Canin Mother and Baby cat kibble which costs £85 and puppy mousse, the hoglets and poorly juveniles benefit because of the high fat content of all these foods, I have an incubator which is also on hand.
All 14 here are doing very well, I will be releasing 10 very soon, the weather is quite unfriendly out there at the moment and all here came in last year as babies or juveniles. I will hold on to Bobby, Holly, Tilly and Rana, they need to be bigger and I want to be sure they are ok too.
Rana is from Cockfield, her sibling is big enough to go at 1300grams.
Here is Holly, getting bigger every day too now, bless her, she has had a rough time.
Here is the British Hedgehog Preservation Society telephone number 01584 890801. If you see a Hedgehog that needs help because I am still closed unfortunately, or if you need advice, my email address is pricklyhaven@yahoo.com
Thank you.
