Spectrum Roller Skating Club won several prestigious awards last weekend adding to their ever growing collection of National and Championship titles.
The athletes, who train at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre, competed in The Great Britain Skate Artistic, Figure and Free British Championships 2023 held at Breydon Arena, Great Yarmouth on 1st and 2nd July.
Liam Stevens-Bell, aged 9 from Shildon, was last years Tot’s Men’s British Champion in both figures and free. Earlier in the month Liam became Mini Men’s Solo Dance British Champion and also, with his partner Ella Hutchinson, became Mini Couples Vice British Champions. This time, the youngster skated in Mini Men’s Figure and Free disciplines for under 11’s retaining his British Champion title by gaining a gold medal in figures and also earning a silver medal and Vice Champion in Mini Men’s Free Skating with his super routine to The Wild Wild West.
Also skating in British Championships Jazzmyn Loring, 13, who was Espoir Ladies silver medallist in free skating last year, took part in Cadet Category for the first time competing against 13-16 year olds in both figures and free disciplines where she gained 5th place in figures and, lying in 3rd place after her short programme to music from Peaky Blinders, she secured the bronze medal in free skating with her fabulous long programme to a Harley Quinn medley.
In Championship Espoir Figures category, for the first time, Lucy Owen, 12, achieved a bronze medal and in National Promotional 1b free event Lucy was selected to take part in finals with skaters of all ages and won with an amazing routine to music from Wednesday, coming home with gold.
Ella Hutchinson, 10, was also selected to take part in promotional finals for 1a free against people of all ages and skated a beautiful programme to music from Brave which secured her a silver medal.
Nicola Stevens was selected for promotional figures finals in event 4 and came 4th place.
With all skaters achieving top 5 places at British Championship and National Promotional Finals 2023, we could not be any prouder of the athletes and their performances. Their achievements reflect the hard work and dedication they put into their training and the positive mindsets of these young ambitious athletes.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and believed in us along the way. We could not do this without your help.
