Relentless doesn’t quite cover it, over the weekend I have admitted four little ones, one was quite poorly and didn’t make it, this is the bit of the job I hate, I want to save them all and, with the support of Angela, Elaine, Ed and staff of Grange Vets, I have everything I need here to help these beautiful mammals. For the last few weeks I have been hand rearing beautiful baby hedgehogs, they came in at 29-30 grams, now they are out of the incubator and eating for England independently, they have been named Billy and Buster, quite appropriate, trouble is now they think I am mum! I don’t mind at all because they are cute and healthy. All the other hoggies are doing equally as well, doing this is what I love and I do this at home so it’s a win-win.
Over the next few weeks I will be out and about raising funds and awareness, I will be at St Clare’s Church this Saturday with June also, on the 29th myself and June will be at Ayclive Festival, please come and see us. I am trying to make the time to do some hedgehog activity packs for kids so they can learn about our lovely garden friends. I have sweets too!
We will also be selling some beautiful hand-made hats, etc., please come and see us, I can hopefully answer any questions you may have about our hedgehogs and how to stop them from becoming extinct. I would also like to ask everyone to take part in a big campaign, which helps them to pass from garden to garden, to cut hedgehog highway holes, these should become compulsory especially now their numbers are dwindling. I have information leaflets, please help these gorgeous souls. I know durapost cuts hedgehog holes in their new build properties now.
Special thanks to finder Steven who brought a beautiful baby girl, 155g, in on Sunday afternoon with a donation, she is a little unwell because she has been out in this awful weather poor soul, but she is ok on a heat pad with Bea, Buster and Billy, all doing well.
Steffie and Nigel for their donation, it has been useful because I needed antibiotics which cost about £60, it’s a good one and it saves lives, believe me it’s a cheaper one too, others are about £80-90 but worth having here.
