Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club attended back-to-back competitions in July, both being 50m pool competitions at Sunderland and Leeds.
First was Sunderland for the annual Summer Splash gala hosted by City of Sunderland Swimming Club. Niamh Renton started things off with a personal best of almost five seconds in 200m backstroke and in the 50m backstroke sprint, she saw off 26 other competitors to win gold with another PB.
Jessica Bell took on ten events doing 50 and 100m in all four strokes as well as 200m breaststroke and individual medley events. She secured top six finishes in four events, the highlights being the silver medal in 100m butterfly and good PB’s in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
Aviana Wilson swam in five events, all the backstroke and 50 and 200m freestyle. Aviana reduced her best 200m freestyle time by almost three seconds and picked up the bronze medal for 200m backstroke.
A week later it was the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds where Richmond Dales Swimming Club were hosting their Summer Madness gala. Taking place over one day this time, three swimmers again took part.
Zoe Hodgson competed in six events, 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50 and 100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly recording good 50m times and securing a top six finish in 200m freestyle.
Charlotte Lee swam all the strokes over 50m and added 100m breaststroke, where she took the bronze medal. She also placed fourth in the 50m breaststroke.
Jessica Bell won a medal in all her five events; gold in 100m breaststroke, silvers in 50m butterfly and breaststroke and bronzes in 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley. She also set a new PB in the 50m breaststroke.
Alex Boyer put his Sedgefield 75 training to good use as he travelled to Worcester for the latest round of the British Triathlon Super Series for the South Aquathlon. He competed in three races, a 800m swim + 1km run, a 500m swim + 1.5km run and a 300m swim + 2km run. He won the first two races and won the event overall for his first national level win, taking his ranking to third in the Super Series with three events remaining.
