The Neighbourhood Police Team in Newton Aycliffe are aware of a number of concerns that have been raised in relation to parking and the manner of driving of motorists – particularly the excessive speed of vehicles, in the Peaseway and Stephenson Way areas of the town.
I wish to acknowledge that we share those concerns, take those concerns seriously, and are working with our partner agencies to look at ways to alleviate the issues, such as the implementation of traffic calming measures.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting community Speedwatch activities in the area and I would ask for anyone who resides in the local area, who may be affected by these matters, and would be interested in volunteering to contact ourselves and to work with us when performing such initiatives.
All I would say is that whilst we can take enforcement action, environmental factors and education are key to successfully tackling these issues and the Police cannot do this alone. The answer lies in partnership working and community cohesion.
