A North East leading health and wellbeing charity based in Newton Aycliffe are hosting a Time to Talk coffee and catch up event on Thursday, 7th February from 10.00 – 12.00 noon in the centre which is open to the public.
Time to Talk is a charity aiming to break the stigma around mental health and get people talking openly about their problems without embarrassment. Too often we hide how we are truly feeling and cover up emotions with a smile and telling people we’re “fine” when we aren’t! Time to Talk wants to show people it’s okay to feel down, and a simple conversation with a friend or a stranger can really help!
PCP would like to invite everyone to their Time to Talk coffee morning in aid of breaking down the barriers around mental health. The charity are also asking individuals to make a pledge to do their bit in reducing the stigma in our community. Simply walk into the centre and enjoy a cup of coffee whilst getting to know new people who may need a helping hand. A simple conversation could potentially save a life.
There will be a Regional Peer Leader for the North East representing Time to Talk attending the coffee morning at PCP. Leanne Smith began her journey in a two year programme as a young champion; attending schools and other venues speaking to young people and professionals about her personal journey of mental illness as well as the stigma and discrimination she faced, and why those barriers shouldn’t exist. Leanne is now a Regional Peer Leader for the North East, guiding the current cohort of Young Champions.
She says “events like Time to Talk Day are a vital platform for conversations because the whole nation is involved. When getting involved in events like these it allows for that small piece of liberation and acceptance for people who struggle with their mental health to grow. These events create a starting point whether it is having the knowledge that you are not alone or if you are looking for advice on how to talk, it is the step that can change everything.”
