Dear Sir,

With regards to the recent letter in Newton News issue of 1st June, 2018, regarding motorists speeding along Pease Way, with which I agree. However there is another issue which is not only very annoying, but is also a blatant offence of causing an obstruction.

I refer to vehicles parked on a regular basis, in the give way to on-coming traffic stop in Pease Way between Emerson Road roundabout and the roundabout at the top of Pease Way.

Another vehicle also parks in the give way area in Stephenson Way, between Silkin Way and Pease Way. I’m sure the drivers of these vehicles find very difficult to find a parking space for their vehicle, owing to the volume of today’s traffic on our roads, but surely their own common sense should tell them that it must be an offence to park in the give way to on coming traffic area. Do these people have total disregard for Road Traffic Laws, as with the people who exceed the speed limit?

It happens all over Newton Aycliffe in regard to parking in particular at night, vehicles are parked facing on-coming traffic: Con. Use Reg. 101 & RVLR Reg. 24, without lights, parked within 32ft of a junction at night without lights. Whatever happened to road courtesy? I could go on, but it’s never ending, and I am of the opinion the reason is that motorists disregard the Law or it is quite a while since they looked at a Highway Code.
