Your local Women’s Institute is a very active group. We have a different speaker or activity every month at our meetings. In April we had Pat Chambers along to talk to us about the MRI scanner appeal. We were all amazed at the number of scans carried out on a daily basis within our health trust. The new and improved scanners will make a vast difference to everyone needing to use one.

For our May meeting we had Mr Mike Thornton with a talk entitled ‘Behind the scenes’. This was a talk about the life of the artist Norman Cornish. A fascinating insight into his life.

At our meeting on June 12th we have a talk about ‘Parliament and Women’ with Skye Yarlett There is always social time at the end of the meetings for tea and chatter with friends.

We have also been active within the community with a cake stall at the Acorn petting zoo at the leisure centre, where we made a donation from our takings.

In July we have been asked to hold a craft exhibition as part of the Aycliffe festival. It will be in St Clare’s church hall on Saturday 28th July 10am till 2pm and entry will be free. There will be several crafts on display with demonstrations and some opportunities to have a go yourself.

There will also be competitions. The three categories will be a paper craft, a tote bag in any medium, and a sugarcraft. The competition for the little ones will be a painting with 2 age groups, under 5yrs and 5-10yrs. See the press for further details. We hope to see you all there.
