Last week, Horndale County Infant & Nursery School was proud to officially open the improvements to it’s new outdoor facilities. The previous outdoor area was ‘boring, dated and in need of some love and attention’. Through support from the Great Aycliffe & Middridge Partnership Neighbourhood Budget Grant, the school was able to update their facilities for use by the pupils as well as families in the community.
Local Councillors; Eddy Adam, Ken Robson, Michael Stead, Tony Stubbs and David Sutton-Lloyd all contributed towards this project which the pupils and families at Horndale School have fallen in love with.
Headteacher, Craig Brown, stated, “The pupils are so proud of the their new outdoor learning area. Not only does it support their physical well-being but encourages use across other curriculum areas too. Parents and carers are excited to use the environment at the end of the school day as a safe and welcoming play area that they can be proud of and responsible for. A huge thank you to the local councillors for supporting us with this venture and another thank you to GAMP for their support with the application process.”
Pupils take great pride in their new play area. Teddy in Year 2 said “I love the climbing frame, 10 out of 10!”
Zara in Year 2 said “I love the stage because you can dance on it.” Lacey in Year 1 added “We can sing and tell stories on the stage too”, Freddie in Reception said “I love the football pitch, I can shoot the ball at my friends.”
The Horndale Infant School Outdoor Play Area is open daily for the school community from 3.15-4.00pm and at set times during the school holidays which will be published on social media.
As with any play area, all children will need to be supervised by an adult and parents are responsible for any minor first aid incidents.
