But, Don’t Forget To Bring Your Umbrella!

Once again we are in the hands of Mother Nature – at the time of writing the weather for Saturday looks uncertain with Sunday brightening up slightly … so best bring your umbrella, just in case (poncho’s available to buy)!

This weekend Aycliffe Radio presents a ‘Two Day Open Air Live Music Festival’ in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre mall.

The event is free to attend thanks to grants from Aycliffe Town Centre Management and Great Aycliffe Town Council and will include a selection of local performers all giving their time to entertain.

Performing on both days will be a mixture of groups, solo artistes, dancers and special headline acts – including, on Saturday 8th June, Amelia Lily, fresh from a UK tour as Princess Fiona in Shrek; Amelia will be performing her hit record ‘Bring Me Joy’ and a selection of other songs. Amelia will be on stage around 4pm.

On Sunday 9th June the headline act will be Dene Michael, lead singer from the party group of the 1980s, Black Lace, performing hits such as ‘Agadoo’, ‘Superman’, ‘I am the Music Man’, ‘Conga’ and many others. Dene will be accompanied by Jeni Jay and between them they will perform a ‘Party Crazy’ set and a ‘tribute’ set, which includes tributes to artistes such as Elvis and Kylie Minogue. Black Lace will be on stage around 4.30pm.

The event starts at 12 noon on both days with performances from local dance troupes Infinity Dance Company, Aycliffe Dance Academy and Athena Sports Academy, followed by a selection of entertainers all the way through till 6pm.

Local artistes who are giving their time include Becky Sawyer, Darren Kent, Whiskey Haze, Harris Tweed Mystery Machine, Amy Stevens, Hollywood Boredom, Anthony Fish, Call of the Wild, Copper Beach, Four Letter Word, Chris Mardula; as well as Dua Lipa and Shania Twain tributes.

The full schedule of artistes and more information about the event can be viewed on the centre pages of this edition.

Professor Nincompoop will perform two shows each day for the younger children at 1pm and 3pm; there will also be a kiddies’ fairground on site, face painters, ice cream, beer tent and refreshments.

Aycliffe Radio will be running competitions and spot prizes.
