During the Spring term, the whole school took it in turns to complete Mini Medic Training. In classes the children joined Donna and Leanne who brought in mannequins for the children to learn what to do in an emergency, the recovery position and CPR. Each child got a turn at rescuing Anne their mannequin, they had to:
• call 999 and ask for an ambulance
• shout very loud for HELP
• ask patients if they are ok, “Anne are you ok?”
• check their mouths for anything they could be choking on
• check for breathing by putting their ear close to their mouths for 30
seconds, if there is no sign of breathing
• start chest presses, lock your hands and press hard in the middle of
their chest for 30 seconds.
They did such a good job and we hope they never have to, but feel the children are equipped in an emergency situation.
Jayden-Pryce, Year 5: “We learnt CPR in a fun way, to support how we would help others if they stopped breathing – we even used mannequins.”
Bobby-Joe, Year 5: “We all tried our very best within all the activities and worked successfully as teams.”
The trainers were fantastic at guiding us with what we needed to do! Well done St. Francis’ children for being so sensible, resilient and co-corporative.
