Wear United 0 v Newton Aycliffe Youth Women 8 (Cup ¼ Final)
Aycliffe made the perfect start with two goals in six minutes both from Katie. Wear then got a hold of the game and came close on a few occasions, but no more goals. HT 0-2.
Four minutes into the second half and Alex gets on the score sheet, a thunderbolt of a shot left the keeper no chance. Katie then sealed her hat trick just before the 70th minute, with two defenders around her she drove into the box and rifled the ball off the crossbar and in. Next, Annabelle with a free kick at the edge of the box struck well, but the keeper saves, Amber reacted quickest and stabbed home at the second attempt. Then Katie scores three more in eight minutes to get her second hat trick of the game and move the women into the cup semi final.
Player of the Match goes to Phoebe Shale, still new to the team and picking up more and more minutes each week.
Belmont United 0 v Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors
(Cup ¼ Final) Penalties 8-9.
Aycliffe were against a side top of the league above and favourites to win their league. With only twelve players available this was going to be the biggest test of the season so far. Aycliffe created lots of chances but nothing clear enough to convert with their keeper on top form when the lads had a sight on goal, the half ended goalless. The first twenty minutes of the second half, Belmont were on top, but the defence held firm, however, Aycliffe finished the strongest. As the whistle blew for full time, it was straight into a penalty shoot out. Adam saves the first two Belmont penalties but Aycliffe miss two so, after finishing 3-3, it was now sudden death. At 8-8, it was now down to the keepers. Belmont keeper hits the bar leaving Adam to smash his penalty into the top corner and send the lads to the semi final. MOM: Cameron Nicholson, but a mention to Adam for his performance in the shoot out.
