Dear Sir,
I am sure it’s not just me that is fed up with the amount of litter in Newton Aycliffe. It makes the town look unkempt and neglected and is also a danger to wildlife.
I’m also sure that there are many like me that are quite frankly flabbergasted that with the exorbitant rates of Council Tax we pay, the council can’t keep up with this issue.
New houses are being built at an astonishing rate in and around our town with another 1400 or so being built at the Central Avenue/A167 junction. This will generate further millions in council tax. Where oh where does it all go?
Clearly little or nothing on litter picking.
Many groups in the town have now taken it upon themselves to start up litter picking groups. I have joined one of them. Whilst this is all very admirable, and perhaps part of our civic duty, it annoys me immensely that the council is remiss in its litter picking responsibilities. The more litter us mugs pick up, the less the council will see it as a problem. It’s catch 22!
My friend and I were out recently for 90 minutes and picked up four full bags (photo). We have barely scratched the surface.
Come on council – get your finger out and help clean up our town!
