Dear Sir,
Following the final performance at Darlington Civic Theatre on Tuesday 31 May the theatre is now ‘dark’ for a period of approximately 17 months while the multi-million pound restoration work takes place.
When the theatre re-opens (as the Darlington Hippodrome) there will be a host of new facilities including a café-bar, education centre, heritage gallery, improved disabled access including a lift to all seating levels and improvements to the backstage areas to allow the theatre to accommodate larger shows.
The footprint of the theatre will increase enabling us to offer improved public circulation spaces, the seating capacity will increase to over 1000 while improving sightlines. Improved ventilation will also help to make a visit to the theatre much more comfortable.
I would just like to thank everyone for the support shown Darlington Civic Theatre over the years and we will send regular updates on the status of the restoration. Julian Cound
