From 8am on Tuesday 29th November to 10am on the 30th November the road below bus stand running across West green towards the Bay Horse will be closed to traffic. A 40’ trailer generously donated by Allinson’s transport Darlington, will be reversing into this road some time during the Tuesday so it is important that this small road is kept clear during this period. We apologise for any inconvenience but the Trailer is to be used as a stage for Kieran’s Carol Singing fund raiser. During the afternoon of the 29th bollards will be put down the main road through Heighington to keep it clear so vehicle parking will be restricted. Villagers should all walk to the event and if you have to drive, please car share. BBC television, ITV and BBC News are expected to be there and is an indication the interest shown in our neighbourhood and beyond so whilst the Village has lit up for Kieran can we do more? The Carol singing Tuesday night on the Green is going to be a night for all to remember. The Lord Lieutenant, Sue Snowden and Ron Hogg, Police Commissioner will join us. Amy Tinkler, Olympic Bronze medallist is also coming along and Santa Claus from the Polar Express to meet the children. Michelle Chadwick has arranged for Cockerton Silver Band and Darlington Operatic Society to set the atmosphere for the night and lead the singing. Light refreshments will be served in the Village Hall courtesy of the Village Hall Assoc, Heighington & Redworth W.I’s and Homemakers. All responded magnificently to the challenge only eight days before the event. All contributions of tea, coffee, cakes and scones, will be gratefully received – simply drop them off in the Village Hall after 4.30pm on the 29th November. Please bring torches to ‘Light up the Sky’ for Kieran and use them for your own safety given the night will be dark and the Green is far from even. Also wrap up and wear sensible footwear. The evening’s Carol Singing is Michelle Chadwick’s response to Kieran and his family who have asked for donations to his Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust. Michelle has performed miracles in organising this event in so little time. Through her wonderful efforts she has managed to enable people to show their feelings,  admiration and respect to the brave, courageous and tenacious young man, Kieran. Tuesday is about bringing the community together to enjoy an evening of carols and raising money for Kieran’s Research Trust. To date costs associated with Tuesday night is zero. Food, trailer, generator, village hall and the time given by volunteers is free of charge so please help by giving generously. A collection will be made, cheques should be made out to Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust. Do not forget the Village Hall Association has organised a Carol Singing session with Santa Claus coming into the village to meet the children on
Friday evening at 5.45pm. This event has been organised for some time so do come along and support the Association who are working hard to provide events to bring our community together and at the same time keep our Village hall looking so good. Councillor Gerald G. Lee
