100% of students taking French this summer achieved a good GCSE (A*-C grade). John Coley, who was appointed Head of Modern Foreign Languages last September, says, “I am really proud of our students.  They have worked with great enthusiasm and determination, they all thoroughly deserve their success.”
All students at Woodham Academy learn a language, with around two thirds taking a GCSE.  Woodham Academy’s annual visit to the Opal Coast in France is a highlight of Year 8.  Students visit the amazing aquarium in Boulogne, go to a bakery to try their hand at making croissants and get to try out their French buying a picnic at the local market.  There are also excursions to Bagatelle theme park and Aqualud water park.
New to Woodham Academy’s languages department this year is Paul Ward who teaches both French and German.  Paul is fluent in both languages and recently received a Durham University award for distinction in spoken French.
