Year 11 students from Woodham Academy welcomed in the New Year in the idyllic setting of the Aosta Valley, Italy. With the usual term time trip limited to years 8-10, the additional trip was offered at the request of the year 11 students. Many of the group were familiar with Pila having skied there the year before, and with constant blue skies, the stunning panorama of the Italian Swiss border from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn was visible every day.

With a smaller group than usual, students were able to visit the neighbouring resort of Courmayeur for a day. Courmayeur is situated at the foot of Mont Blanc and the breathtaking views of the Dent du Geant and the Grandes Jorasses were an imposing sight for all to see. The day finished with a visit to the stylish village and the pedestrianised Via Roma which was still decorated with spectacular Christmas illuminations.

Woodham Academy Deputy Headteacher and party leader Danny Morgans said: “It was wonderful to see how much the students improved during their week away, and also extremely rewarding to be able to take them to see cultural sights in the Aosta Valley such as the Roman amphitheatre that is over 2000 years old.”
