Following the article from a young girl getting her hair cut and donating it to The Princess Trust, I wanted to add more information!
During lockdown my hair grew immensely; I have just turned 60 and decided it was about time I got it cut, but, wanting to make it memorable, I contacted Cancer UK to ask how I donate hair for wigs and they gave me contact details for The Princess Trust.
What I really wanted to do was advertise the fact that anyone who is thinking of getting long hair cut, after lockdown, it is so easy to donate it for making wigs for cancer patients.
I went to Joy Marie Hairdressers in Aycliffe Village. I didn’t intend asking for sponsors, I was just going to send a donation myself; but Joy Marie made a donation as did some of my friends and family. The Princess Trust give clear information on how to send the hair in the post, it only cost £4.20 to post; and The Princess Trust send you a certificate and a nice thank you letter!
You don’t have to get sponsors or send a cash donation, just your hair if you want to! I got a great feeling donating my 13” of hair, thinking it is going to go to some use. Did you know it costs over £500 to make a wig?
