In 2018 Syd Howarth of Newton Press asked the sewing/knitting group from St. Mary’s to co-ordinate a display for the towns War Memorial commemorating the end of WW1, this, with the help of many from the town, we did. Since then we have taken responsibility for removing them having them dried and stored for the next year and displaying them again. Four years later we are not sure if people still wish to see a display of poppies each year, but now need another group to take on the task.
We will display them this year to remember, in particular, the British Service personnel who died in Afghanistan.
I approached one of our local councillors to see if the town council would take it on, but did not get a positive response. Anyone with comments or ideas could reply through the Newton News.
