Long serving Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club captain Chris Palmer played his 500th senior game for the club when the first team entertained Stokesley 2nd team in the NYSD 2nd division on Saturday 25th of July.
He became only the second player in the club’s history to reach this notable milestone and now needs only 17 more games to overtake the record set by current club Secretary Lee Weldon, who played 516 games for Aycliffe before retiring in 2009.
Lee Weldon was quick to pay tribute to Chris, saying that “it takes a tremendous amount of time, effort and commitment to play this many games and Chris has shown all these qualities in abundance since making his senior debut in the year 2000”.
Lee added that “Chris has captained the club’s first team in 187 matches during his time, and scored over 8,000 runs, including three centuries”. Lee stated that “the affable 31 year old will probably be playing for a few more years to come and so expects the appearance record  to be stretched a lot further before he hangs up his bat”.
