Following the success of our fantastic men’s Cree project last year, which saw the construction of ‘Nalu’ our bamboo installation here at Greenfield Arts. “Nalu” is well loved and much admired at Greenfield Arts and has been used for a variety of projects, including a recent art installation by families during Easter.
We are pleased to extend this project and work with more men this year to make something even bigger and better! The project as a whole has been funded by NHS through East Durham Trust, and we have received funding to complete two Cree projects this year.
Last week some of the lovely male volunteers joined us here at Greenfield to hear more about the great project they can get involved in this year: Cutting Loose 2014. Cutting Loose is a community carnival of music, dance and costume which will involve the whole community in the development and performance, including young people from all schools in Newton Aycliffe. The event will take place on Tuesday 15th July at 6pm at the Boating Lake. The Cree volunteers will develop, design and build one element for the finale of the event – we can’t give you any more details yet, it’s a surprise so you’ll have to come to the event in July to find out!
The men have started coming up with some ideas but are always looking for more volunteers to contribute to this fantastic project. If you’d like to join us you would be more than welcome. There’ll be cake and butties when we meet again on Tuesday 13th May from 10:30am – 12pm and then again on Monday mornings, starting Monday 19th May 10.30am-12pm.
We are really pleased to be able to work with such generous volunteers again for another great purpose, and are looking forward to seeing what they create.
