Dear Sir,

I regret to have to correct false information put out by the Labour party spokesman, Mr Vince Crosby, he stated last week that “shortly we will have no Councillors, only prospective candidates.”

He is totally, legally, and absolutely wrong.

The law states the terms of all the existing Councillors end on the fourth day after the day of the election, at which time the newly elected Councillors succeed them (provided they have made declarations of acceptance of office). Local Government Act 1972 Section 16(3). This is not disputable, it is the Law, since 1972.
