Another blank weekend for most of our teams. The weather continues to close the OakLeaf pitches and other pitches across the area. However, despite heavy rain, the games on 3G pitches were played.
Coulby Newham v Aycliffe U10 Wildcats
Final game of the TJFA Summer / Autumn season, before the reshuffle of the leagues. Although U10’s is a non-competitive format of the game, a result would see the Girls move to a higher division, although they weren’t told anything at the start of the game other than to go & enjoy the final game of this part of the season.
In the first half the Girls struggled, having not played for a month & to also adapt to playing back on 3G. It was Coulby who took their chances in front of goal to leave Aycliffe two down at half-time. At the interval, the Girls were told to keep going and don’t give-up, as they have come from behind to win games several times this season.
The Girls duly rallied. Sophie pouncing on a loose ball at the back, got herself through on goal and calmly finished with 15 minutes to go. The Girls continued to press throughout the remainder of the game, whilst also constantly defending against the Coulby attacking threat, including a vital save from Penny to deny Coulby a third goal. It was in the 50th and final minute when they found the break-through. With the team putting pressure on Coulby at the back. The ball ricocheted up in the air, at the edge of the box, and Sophie smashed it into the back of the net on the half-volley and the game finished all square. Everyone is super proud of how far these girls have all come and they deserve to enjoy this success and look forward to the second half of the season with confidence. Goals: Sophie x 2; POTM: Alice.
Darlington RA v Aycliffe U9 Eagles
A hard fought game for the Eagles, after going behind early in the game the lads drew level and then ended the 1st half 2-1 in the lead. The second half was equally close but Darlington grabbed a late equaliser. The boys put in a great shift in the game and there were some excellent moments of passing play. A mention to Noah for hard work in midfield and Alex B for MOTM.
Under 9 Wildcats
Our newest girls’ team is preparing for friendlies in the Spring but still have places with the team. If you are in year 4 and interested in playing football in a girls only team, why not come and join them at their training sessions.
