The weekend of 9th/10th June was the presentation of the awards for the football season for Newton Aycliffe Youth Football Club, held at The Big Club.
The awards were held over five sessions and attended by almost 1000 people made up of players, coaches and their families. Ex officials were welcomed back to the club, to present all the awards. Thank you goes to Joe Blackett, Kevin Hewitt and Peter Robinson for giving up their spare time. Thanks also to Aycliffe Radio, for providing the music and the photography.
Each session started with an overview of the club and their achievements. The club proudly confirmed that they had retained the prestigious 3* accreditation by the F.A., recognising the full male and female player pathways that the club have established over the past few years, from Little Eagles to the U23’s and Wildcats to the Women’s team.
The club have 21 affiliated teams and 325 players involved in the football club every week, led by over 50 qualified coaches. The U13 Angels and the U23’s had league and cup doubles and the U12 Girls were league winners. Players from each of the 21 teams and the two development sections were awarded trophies in recognition of their efforts throughout the season.
Berni Borsberry announced that the second winner of the Darren Scott Community Award, went to the N.A.Y.F.C. Women who have been raising funds all season, for many good causes. The family were in attendance to give out the award.
Preparation now starts for the 2023/24 season with another substantial amount of funding from the football foundation, being spent at the OakLeaf Sports Fields taking them towards being some of the best pitches in the County.
The football club will be strengthening their male and female pathways as our adult male team will enter the ninth tier of the football pyramid when they join the Wearside League and the female pathway will add an Adult Reserve Team.
Finally, throughout all five sessions Tracey Hardy, Chairperson, sold football cards and raised £300 for our support of young footballers in Kenya. With increased teams and expanding development sections it will be another fantastic season to look forward to at Newton Aycliffe Youth F.C.
