On Sunday 2nd March Chris Forster from Aycliffe Running Club travelled to Cumbria for the Haweswater Half Marathon which is an out and back course from Bampton Village and  passes along the shores of Haweswater in a remote and dramatic mountain valley. The hilly course offers an exhilarating run in unique surroundings. Weather conditions were poor and alternated between drizzle and pouring rain and the fells were hidden in the mist.  However, Chris completed the course in a time of 2 hours and 5 seconds.
4 members of Aycliffe Running Club went to the Hackworth Park 1st birthday run at Shildon on Saturday 8th March.  Ste Smith finished in 4th position and achieved a new PB of 20:39, Sandra Collins was 12th in 22:49 and also a  PB, next was Penny Johnson 30th in 26:17 and Rob Nicholson 35th in 27:47.
It was a good turnout for Aycliffe Running Club on Sunday 9th March for the inaugural Town and Gown Durham City 10K.  The run was organised by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign to raise funds to help fight the genetic, currently incurable, muscle wasting condition.  Over 300 runners took part in the race which started and finished at the Graham sports ground at Maiden Castle and followed a route taking in the sights of Durham including the banks of the River Wear, the Cathedral, Castle and Market Place.  The sun shone on the runners and it was a lovely spring day.  First home for Aycliffe was Martyn Knox in 41:14 followed by Peter Milburn in 41:27.  Nigel Holmes was next in a personal best time of 43:26 followed by Robert Young in 45:40.  It was Andrew Greenall’s first ever race and he finished the course in 46:39.
Four Club members chose the Stockton Winter 5K Trail Race at Ropner Park  on Sunday 9th March. Peter Smith was first home in 20:42 followed by John Burnside 20:47 and Kelly Smith 22:51.  Sue Milburn was glad to get back into running again after injury and illness and, although ran slower than she is used to, finished in a respectable time of 24:19.
