Hi readers, after a rare quiet week in the race diary, we’re back. To begin with, the club would like to applaud Wendy Bake who attempted the Uk Ironman, held in Bolton on July 17th. Due to an accident on her bike earlier this year which left her arm broken, and unable to train as much as she would have liked, she ‘gave it her best’, exiting the 3.8km swim in 1:44:10 (an achievement itself when considering how much her injury prevented her from swim training). But sadly she didn’t make the bike cut off time. She knew that there would ‘be a strong chance she wouldn’t finish’ so she wasn’t disappointed in the least and looks forward to 2017 and another chance to be an Ironman/lady. On the evening of Wednesday 20th, the second of three Triology Mid Week Super Sprint Triathlons was held at Ellerton Lake in North Yorkshire. We had nine club member racing in glorious sunshine. For the ladies, Nicola Darragh was first home finishing an excellent 2nd in her age group, 4th female, in a time of 49:10. Tracey Warrior was next, 7th in her age group, 19th female, in a time of 56:08. A much more confident Anne Kellet crossed the line in 1:08:23, 24th in her age group, 42nd female, and due to an accident, credit goes to Melanie Rowland for stopping and assisting a fallen competitor and in doing so, sacrificing her race. For the gentlemen, Stuart Rimmer was first home 12th in his age group, 29th male, in a time of 46:43. Next was Jeremy Ladbury, 24th in his age group, 48th male, in a time of 51:20. Alan Kellet was next to finish in a time of 52.22, a fantastic 1st in his age group and 52nd male. Austin Donoghue was close behind Alan, finishing in a time of 52.52, 30th in his age group, 57th male. And not last or least was James Wilson, 2nd in his age group, 62nd male, finishing the race in a time of 54.42. And one last race to bring you news on. Over the 23rd & 24th of July, two of our club members were part of a team that participated in the 24hr Conti Thunder Run, a race where in each team member runs 10km as part of a relay over 24 hours. Michelle Scott and Penny Johnson, together with their team, ran a total of 280km, finishing 27th out of 239 teams, an outstanding achievement. See you next time – ATC
