Local Air Cadets based in Newton Aycliffe were successful in securing £1880 through GAMP via the 2017/18 Youth Fund, to deliver summer adventure training.

The funding is being used to offer camping trips and climbing experiences to all cadets but also Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions for the most experienced. Some of the funding is also being used to purchase the necessary equipment in order for the trips to take place, including camping essentials such as tents, stoves and waterproof clothing. The new equipment will be widely used and will allow the cadets to take part in weekend camping expeditions and other adventure training.

Flt. Lt. Karin Scott, said: “The trip in the picture was our Bronze assessed expedition to Teesdale, staying at Low Way Farm. We had an earlier practice expedition to Hamsterley and we are going to Aysgarth with the Silver group. We also intend to have a camp for the whole squadron in September. The equipment is being well used and is very much appreciated by the cadets.”
