Dear Sir,
I believe that I that I have mentioned in a previous article, I am the luckiest guy in Aycliffe to be able to represent Great Aycliffe as Mayor, however that was doubly so on Thursday 6th October when I was invited to receive a cheque for £250 from our Oakleaf Golf Club to boost funding for the Mayor’s charities Together 21 and Wishing Well Club.
These big-hearted, hard-hitting fellows are a credit to our lovely town and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for the difference their contribution will make to my chosen charities. I would also like to single out Carl Robinson for organising the presentation.
Of course, as the Mayoress and myself happened to be at the Oakleaf Sports Complex, it would be remiss of us not to partake in a wonderful lunch whilst the opportunity arose.
Thank you to the magnificent staff of our Oakleaf Sports Complex for the brilliant service you offer and the multitude of various events and programmes offered. Oh yes, and our lunch.
Of course it wouldn’t be a day in the life of your Mayor and Mayoress if we failed to mention Newton Aycliffe’s varied community groups who are well worth supporting and our next visit was to a group who are based in the Phoenix Club on a Thursday afternoon.
The Friendship Club, we were informed, now boasts a membership of over 90 members who go on trips around the north, enjoy meals out and have afternoons of entertainment.
Of course when I was offered tea and cake how could I refuse and over a cuppa I spent a pleasant afternoon chatting to members.
The job of Mayor is more than just a great honour it is an opportunity to promote all of the great things going on in our town of which there are many and varied. The Mayor and Mayoress would be happy to come along to any organisation who invites us.
Should you like a visit, please contact the Mayor’s secretary Sharna Stretch at our Great Aycliffe Council offices, 01325 321471.
Ken and Elaine Robson
Mayor and Mayoress of Great Aycliffe
