On Friday 31st March, Year 9 students from Greenfield Community College, Sunnydale Campus worked with two of Newcastle University’s graduate ambassadors to develop business & enterprise skills.  The graduate ambassadors opened the event by talking to the students about business as a subject, skills which are gained from studying the subject and possible future routes for study and employment. Following the introductions, students competed against each other in the Business Bonanza game.

In small groups, students were asked to make business decisions, work out their finances and consider the ethical implications of their decisions and how these might also impact on the customers.  Students were able to gain points by balancing the best financial decisions with those that would be ethically and morally sound as well as satisfying the needs of the customers.

Abbie in Year 9 said, “I learnt a lot about the paths you can go down in the business sector and how you would be taught at University.  I found the Business Bonanza games interesting because it showed us what it’s like to set up our own business and the good aspects. However, it did also show us the bad aspects such as losing a lot of money on silly things.  Overall, I enjoyed this morning’s workshop and the activities and the valuable information we got.”
