Two Ashley Coffey goals took Aycliffe to victory on Saturday. In recent seasons Jarrow Roofing have been Aycliffe’s bogey team. Even with last year being Aycliffe’s best ever season the Roofers managed a double. Peter Dixon’s side were clearly determined to put the record behind them and as in Tuesday’s game the first goal came after just 4 minutes. A cross from Brian Close found Coffey who slotted home. The first half saw both sides play good football in blustery conditions but the score remained 1-0 at the break. The second half saw Aycliffe press for a second goal and they were rewarded after 50 minutes, this time a John
Campbell pass with Coffey providing the finish. Roofing tried to get back in the game & their efforts were rewarded with a Shaun Vipend goal. However, as the weather deteriorated further Aycliffe clung on to take the three points. Aycliffe now get an unexpected midweek break as Dunston’s planned trip to Moore Lane on Tuesday 23 August was called off due to their FA Cup replay against Penrith taking precedence. Our next game is Saturday 27th August, home to Consett (KO 3pm) followed by another home fixture, against West Auckland on Tuesday 27th August (KO 7:30pm).
