Congratulations to Cadet Cpl Gareth Stewart of 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Sqn Air Cadets on the completion of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Cpl Stewart attended a ceremony at St James’ Palace in London where he was presented with his certificate by the Commandant of the Air Training Corps, Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty. HRH Prince Edward was in attendance and he chatted to the cadets about their experiences while doing their awards. The Deputy Wing Commander of Durham/Northumberland Wing ATC, Sqn Ldr John Scott RAFVR(T), attended the presentation ceremony as a VIP guest as thanks for his 13 years of service as the Wings DofE Officer before his promotion. 1407 squadron’s commanding officer, Flt Lt Karin Scott, was also at the ceremony assisting with the presentations and marshalling the guests. All cadets at 1407 participate in the DofE Award amongst many other activities.
