Girls across County Durham will be provided with increased opportunities to play football after a new nationwide participation programme was announced. The programme will see 200 SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres opening throughout England this spring, each run in conjunction with the local County FA and their key partners.   The move will provide girls aged from 5 to 11, who haven’t played regular football, with opportunities to play and take part in organised sessions in a fun, engaging and safe environment over a minimum 16 week period. The project is an integral part of The FA’s objective to double girls’ football participation by 2020 and has been established in a joint partnership between The FA and SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.

One of the new SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres, within Durham County FA, will be taking place in conjunction with Newton Aycliffe Youth Football Club every Sunday for 16 weeks (excluding Easter Sunday),  Starting Sunday 26th March 2017, 10am-11am at Greenfield Community College – 3G Facility. Cost £1.00 per session. Parents and carers who attend with the girls will also have the optional opportunity to take part in football-related fitness sessions at the same time as the girls (subject to numbers interested). Durham FA Secretary John Topping says: “This is a tremendous initiative from the Football Association and an ideal opportunity to promote and grow girl’s football within the County. The Durham County FA are fully supportive of this venture.” Aycliffe Youth FC Secretary Berni Borsberry added “To be chosen as the partner club for the whole of South West Durham by The English FA is reward for the work we have put in over 15 years growing the girls game. The strength of our proposal and the number of qualified coaches we have committed to the programme will give these girls an enjoyable and satisfying introduction to the game of football.” To register your place for this exciting opportunity please contact Berni Borsberry: Mob 07939 045242 Email: bernib1102@yahoo.co.uk
