Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club have brought forward thier preseason training schedule to commence on Saturday 13th June at Moore Lane sports field. The intent is to improve the fitness and skill levels of the current squad with the addition of new players from Mowden Park and Darlington who have had experience at playing higher national level rugby. This includes Paul O’Donnell who also featured for Darlington,Blaydon, Northern and had a spell at Northumbria rugby league. The club have set themselves a goal to get promoted from Durham Northumberland Division 3 for the 2015/16 season. It is hoped that potential new players living in and around Newton Aycliffe will come down for some trial training sessions. The club will have room for plenty of new players as they are starting up a 2nd XV in order to add strength and depth to support the Ist XV drive to be champions. Every squad member within the club will have potential to play in the 1st XV within the season. For anybody not associated with the club any potential new player will be made welcome and will have access to the club facilities with an established coaching team to help
With fitness, teamwork, ball skills and tactical play. Aycliffe rugby is definately on the rise and is renowned for its hospitality and great friendship with clubs throughout the counties. With the Rugby World Cup being played throughout the UK this autumn some matches are being played at Newcastle St James Park a great venue for rugby fans in the north east to enjoy the spectacle. It is hoped that on the back of this local lads will be inspired to drop in on Aycliffe rugby and try out the sport.
