As the nights get longer, leading children’s charity Barnardo’s is calling for donations of winter woollies for its Newton Aycliffe shop. The charity is expecting a surge in demand for winter clothing. Barnardo’s Manager, Jo Strachan, said: “We expect coats, jumpers, gloves, scarves and hats to be flying off the shelves – so we are especially grateful for donations of winter woollies as autumn approaches. All money raised in your local Barnardo’s shop is used to help disadvantaged children and young people such as those living in poverty, who have been abused or who need to care for a relative, so your pre-loved items really can help change a child’s life for the better.” Barnardo’s is also looking to recruit volunteers to help run the Newton Aycliffe store. “Volunteers are the backbone of our shops and we would not be able to do what we do without them” says Jo. “Volunteering with Barnardo’s is a great way to make new friends as well as a chance to add to your CV. We’re a very friendly small team and look forward to meeting those who have an interest in joining us – just pop in!” For more information about Barnardo’s, please go to www. barnardos.org.uk.
